The Blog Post As A Christmas Card

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

What was going to be a newsletter is now a hastily composed blog post. I have precious few hours before we travel home to spend a few days with family and way too many hors d’oeuvre. Yay!!

(Merry Christmas…by Flickr user Tio)

And so, I wish thee all a very Merry Christmas (that’s what celebrate in my family) and I will see you all again very soon.

Sidebar:: As a bonus link, I was looking through my sister’s copy of Vanity Fair, and I noticed an interesting ad for Target, which spanned several top 1/3 pages, featuring sheet music for Tony Bennett’s “I’ll be home for Christmas,” remixed by Moby. I thought that was pretty cool, then I went to download it at the link they gave: www.target.com/tonybennettremix. What was really neat was that you can download it as a GarageBand file (Macs only, snobs!) and remix it yourself.

David Blaine hanging in a box to promote Target = 1.0
Tony Bennett + Moby + UGC (User Generated Content) = 2.0

Again, enjoy your holidays everyone, and get wound up to honor those resolutions come January one!

Advertising that Makes a Difference

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

It’s been ages and ages since I linked to my wife, as she had taken a long break from posting, but recently she addressed an interesting issue on her blog, and it is tied to advertising. The Dove “real beauty” campaign came out with a new spot that sheds some light on the work involved in creating a billboard campaign for a beauty product, in a tv spot called “Evolution.”

The time-lapse effect is especially cool when it begins to show the various changes made in Photoshop. Watch it for yourself:

Great Ads for Your Viewing Pleasure

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

These are all quite funny, especially when you see them all at once like this. Plus, it has been a really long time since I featured advertising in a post, and I still love a good display ad.

Thanks to Clay of exitcreative for the link and shots:

You almost get the feeling that all of the creatives behind these ads got together for a beer one day…
